Something for everyone

Trails, parks, pools offer opportunities to relax

Posted

From competitive sports to a leisurely walk in the park and plenty of recreational choices in between, Fayetteville and Cumberland County offer something for everyone.

“It all depends on who you are and what you want,” says Michale Gibson, director of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation Department. “We have regional parks; we have neighborhood parks. We’re developing constant recreational opportunities as far as new parks. Our aquatics environment is growing by leaps and bounds throughout the county with splash pads and pools. We’re continually working on our greenways plan adding more trails.’

Recreation centers offer basketball and classes in sewing, dance, fitness, martial arts and more. Choose among dog parks, hiking trails, a nature center and aquatic features. And, of course, there are lots of team and individual sports for youths and adults at facilities throughout the county.

The county finished a master plan about a year ago, Gibson says. “Green space or access to green space is one of the main things that the citizens wanted, especially with this COVID environment. It’s the ability to enjoy outdoor life.”
